Make Your Student Loan Stay in Your Bank

I went through a period ( and still do sometimes) when it seems that my student loan comes into my bank account and swiftly makes its way out just as fast as it came in.  Its always the silly things that your loan gets wasted on like travel and food, unless of course your paying for digs. But I've came up with a few thrifty tips that are basic but effective if followed and will help keep your loan from going a detour when it arrives in your bank!

Pack a Lunch- If your going to be in uni all day pack a sandwich and whatever else you want to eat in your bag.  Believe me you end up spending a packet on food grabbing Panini's everyday of the week and going for coffees is expensive.  I should know the amount of money I've spent so far on cheese toasties mmmhh.

Bring your own Bottle of Water-  Again, no-one wants to waste money on buying water, bring a bottle of water from your house and you are saving a couple of £'s each day but staying hydrated.

Travel Discount Cards- Enquire if your bus/train company offer any student discounts or discount cards for travel.  Travel is pretty expensive and it pays to see if there's any discounts offered.

Books- Obviously books are a necessity for courses at university, but I've found that my university book shop isn't any cheaper than high-street shops.  Look in your university or local library if you only need a book for your course for a short period of time.  Amazon and Ebay as well as Ab books are other good discounted online sites.

Student Union Nights- Make the most of your university union and the social events offered, most union nights don't cost much at all to get into like quiz nights/movie nights/ dance nights etc.  A cheaper night out and drinks etc. aren't expensive either.

I know these tips are pretty basic but I have found recently that they certainly help you to rain in some of your loan that's used to go wandering and the money you save can go on something you want to spend it on!

Yoga to Combat Stress and ensure You have a good night's sleep

Yoga's been a big thing for a long time now, and as usual I'm late to jump on the band wagon but I had to see what all the big fuss was about.  Recently I've been stressed and its been affecting my sleep, stomach and a few spots have taken residence on my face.  All these signs of stress have been getting me down and so I've turned to yoga and I must say that I'm really impressed by how effective it is in the short time that I've started it.  In the mornings I'm always rushing about but in the evenings I like to designate 15-20 mins before I go to bed to do some gentle yoga.  This helps to relax both body and mind and prepare myself for a good nights sleep. I tend to put a yoga video on YouTube on to follow along to.  I don't have a mat and I don't have fancy gym wear nor have I joined a yoga class,  which goes to show just how affordable yoga is and that you can really do it anywhere.

Beauty Purchases- MUA Heaven and Earth Palette and Bourjois 123 Perfect Foundation

I recently bought 2 new purchases at the drugstore, Superdrug to be precise.  I was ready to lift for my beloved L'Oreal True Match Foundation when to my horror I discovered that they did not have any in my shade left.  This at the time was a big deal, but it pushed me to try a new foundation and so I reached for Bourjois 123 Perfect.  Now this foundation claims a lot.  It claims to have yellow pigments to counteract anti- dark circles, mauve pigments for anti- dull complexion and green pigments for anti- redness as well as lasting for up to 16 hours.  I've only been wearing this foundation for 2 days so I can't do a full review but it lasts really well I've noticed on my skin after a day of uni which my face would normally look by that time like a greasy chip pan ( gross).  It gives a sheer finish as well as a matte finish.

In terms of the eye shadow palette, I think its great value for money to get 12 shades in one palette for £4.  All of the shades have small glitter pigments in them and are perfect for everyday use.  The colours are natural browns, purples and gold's which would create a great smoky eye.  The palette is also slim and so would be suitable for travel.

Hope you liked these mini reviews, be sure to leave a comment as to what makeup you like to buy from the drugstore!

Waitrose 'Pure' Skincare Range - Facial Oil and Moisturiser

I've mentioned both these products in previous blog posts but not actually designated a post for them ...so here is the post. Waitrose have launched their own skincare range that aims to help its customers achieve an effective skincare routine that is not going to put a dent in the bank.  What's great about this skincare is that it is suitable for sensitive skin which is always good to know if like me your skin can sometimes react to certain products.  The range is pretty extensive but I decided just to buy the moisturiser and facial oil.  The facial oil is perfect for instantly hydrating your skin and leaves it with a healthy glow.  The face cream is quite light on the skin and doesn't feel greasy in the way some other face creams feel.  I personally think that the range is amazing and great quality for the little money you have to spend.

Afternoon Tea

Since starting back at uni for the second semester after Christmas, I haven't had much time to catch up with some of my friends that I saw more in first year.  On Thursday 12th February my friends Evangeline, Amber and I went for afternoon tea in a swish hotel overlooking the view of Glasgow.  We were treated to various different sandwiches, scones with clotted cream and jam and of course all the sweet cakes such as lemon drizzle, raspberry tartlets and Victoria sponge.  After eating our way through all food and drinking many a cup of tea we were all caught up on each other's news and felt delirious with happiness.  So much so that we ended up getting lost in the hotel on our way out.  All in all it was a lovely afternoon!
